    I have the 750w mid drive and I've just clocked over 6000 kilometers and I've just replaced a worn out 8 speed shimano cassette and chain wheel. Gone with the stock 44t and upgraded to a 42/12 microshift cassette. The chain is fairly new and no signs of wear. Now since I've had the motor out and regressed the whole motor I'm getting a squeaky chain noise coming from the motor. I'm puzxeled cause I know I added enough good quality grease to it

    Mike.... Thats a great video on your Pioneer and you have seasoned in well back east, but your roots are in refrigeration and heating, you have a great gift that many of us do not, consider heat making devices using your standard propane as a working fluid... You have a great gift for taking nothing and making it into something extremely usable....

    • @whatawaytogo515
      @whatawaytogo515 4 місяці тому

      Thanks for the kind words. Although I don't build refrigeration systems anymore, the skills are useful when repairing them. A leaked appliance is easily converted to Propane refrigerant. In the future I'd like to work more with passive systems like two phase thermosiphons. In particular, I'd like to build a passive ice making system utilizing the cold temperatures in my area over the winter months. That cold weather is becoming increasingly rare and short lived, so all the more challenging. Thanks again!

  • @douro20
    @douro20 5 місяців тому

    Propane is extremely close to R22 and can actually perform even better. It's actually used in split system retrofits in Europe and central Asia.

    Huayi compressors are based on Danfoss designs; they are one of the better Chinese compressors. Donper and GMCC are two others. I'm personally not a big fan of cabinet bonded condensers as they don't reject heat as well and are harder on the compressor as a result. Nowadays it's almost impossible to find mini refrigerators or chest freezers with the traditional plate condensers unless they are commercial ones which cost several hundred to a few thousand dollars.

    • @whatawaytogo515
      @whatawaytogo515 4 місяці тому

      My favorite models from the 60s and 70s had stack effect plate condensers on the back. Simple and robust. Easy to clean.

    Question, why use propane instead of refrigerant? Because of cost?

    • @whatawaytogo515

      It's a cheap and effective refrigerant, once used in the 1920s. It's not uncommon today in commerical freezers.

      Sure, I expect the water quality to improve. I haven't noticed much change, but I'm up in the woodlands so it's a lot of leaves and detritus. Some ponds are in the works to drop out sediments.

    Frosting back is not good as that is a clear indication of floodback. That washes the oil off the cyclinder walls and can migrate oil out of the compressor that very likely won't migrate back to the compressor.

    I saw a DR-A2 cabinet on FB which was converted years ago to an icebox...why someone would want to do that is beyond me. The nice thing about the eutectic pig is that once it gets down to temperature it can stay that way without refrigeration for 24 hours or more.

    • @whatawaytogo515
      @whatawaytogo515 7 місяців тому

      Omg, that's shameful. I've never fully understood what the eutectic in these was originally. One place it says something about "Sun Oil" and also another like glycerin or something. I think we put propylene glycol solution in.

  • @michaelmanning7954

    This is fire control. Our forests looked like this when we didn’t control fires. Your dense woods is a product of man stopping nature. So this is a good thing. Top soil isn’t gone, nothing washed. And the forest will grow back. Come to Cali, home of wildfires, and see what nature can do. Though, destroying nature for buildings, I agree

    • @whatawaytogo515
      @whatawaytogo515 7 місяців тому

      I have to disagree. We don't get the same kind of forest fires in these deciduous woods. They are often very dense though as a result of intense forestry a century ago. Some selective cutting could be a benefit. In fact, that's exactly what they did here 20 years ago. They removed some of the less desirable overstory trees and allowed the red oaks to fill out. That would be great, except the only reason was to allow for what amounts to a clear cut this year. There are a few benefits to this cut, but I fail to see how it outweighs the harms.

      There's no such thing as nature. We made it up to make ourselves feel superior. There hasn't been a forest here since the 19th century. These are degraded woodlands with few trees more than 100 years old. Increasingly, snags and larger fallen trees can be found. Often though, the policy is to cut parcels before the wood starts to "go downhill". This only concerns profit and people.
